Reef & Bottom Fishing

Reef fishing in the Keys presents all sorts of action and it’s not uncommon to catch a variety of different species in one day. You can fish shallow on the patch reefs or head to the deeper reefs in 100 to 150 feet. All these reefs attract large numbers of Yellowtail Snapper, Grouper, Muttons, Grey Snapper, Hog fish, Mackerel and Kingfish due to the vast majority of fish along with our beautiful weather, reef fishing is a year round activity.

The Islamorada area reefs are only 3 miles from the island. The waters that are fished are from 5 to 150 feet in depth. Reel Sharp fishing will fish patch reefs that lie in beautiful white sand bottoms in 5 to 30 feet of water. The crystal clear water in these areas will let you see the bottom as you fish. The technique that is used is to anchor in the sand near the reef, and then drift chum back to the reef to lure the fish out to the sandy bottom area behind the boat. You will be able to see the fish as they appear behind the boat. We fish light tackle spinning rods with 12 to 20 lbs line and will be using live and dead bait. The fish that are available to catch are Grouper, Snapper, Barracuda, Cero Mackerel, Shark and much more. This is fast action and a very exciting way to fish. When we fish the deeper reef and wreck’s that range from 30 to 150 feet in depth the fish available in these parts of the ocean are Amberjacks, Groupers, Snappers, Sharks, Tuna, Cobia, Permit,Wahoo, Kingfish and Sailfish.
